THE END OF MAN AS WE KNOW HIM

"I beleieve present Societies are fatally flawed." Pter K. Sharpen

There is much talk of an apocalypse.

Apocalypse can mean 'revelation', or more generally ' the end of the World'.

The 'end of the World' is slight hyperbole but suits religious fearmongers.

Actually, it is much better to come to the conclusion that we are at the end of an era, a period of history in the 'life' of the planet we call Earth. This is behind the notion of 2012 in the Mayan calendar. If fact there is not an 'end of everything' but another 'beginning'. One might indeed cite Lyall Watson's book  'The Romeo Error'.

The use of the word 'World' (with a capital) signifies the world of the human creature. The word 'earth' refers to the name we have adopted for the planet upon which we exist. The 'earth' and the 'World' are not synonymous.

The human creature seems to love predictions. These are spurious activities without any actual foundation whatsoever. Predictions are not extrapolation. Extrapolation is a higher intellectual activity that relies on actual data which is constantly modified but never ends.

This is the difference between a horoscope and a reasoned argument dealing with actual data.

Computer simulations, for example are horoscopic (if there is such a word. If there isn't, there is now.). They are not relying on actual, verifiable data. On the Earth, data changes constantly in such small amounts of 'time' they cannot be reckoned as the construct known as 'time' is a continuity not small discrete particles.

For all creatures, at least, time begins at 'birth' and ends with 'death'. Neither of these are fixed points, merely part of a continuum, whatever that continuum may be. As far as the human animal is concerned (and we can never have data for other creatures) our consciousness (the principle of being 'aware' of our existence) begins at a certain time after our 'birth' and remains with us, in many forms until we are no longer 'conscious' and we are considered 'dead'. Dead is without consciousness of being aware.

One could say that before our consciousness of being aware that we are aware, nothing existed. We could equally say that when we have lost that consciousness, nothing will exist. We are merely a set of frames in a longer motion picture.

What 'evidence' there is of what may have gone before is merely speculation. What happens after we lose our consciousness is likewise, speculation. You may have said 'I think, therefore, I am' but you can never say: "I think, therefore, I was' (at least, not on this plane!)

Man is a product of his environment. His environment is all of the Universe-as-a-whole. Nothing is separate from anything else. Everything is integrated into everything else. Nothing can be separate from this. If there is any entity known as God, then God must be the Universe (whatever it is and however conceived). The Universe must be a homogenous 'substance' from which all else is 'created'. That is not to say that it is without its individual parts because it is the individual parts that work together to make the whole. There may be polarities but they are not at odds with each other; they work as a 'team' to produce what is dynamic and on-going...

...until we, as individuals, 'die' or lose the awareness of being aware.

What we call 'modern Man' is a product of our inventions. Although ostensibly 'clever' they are only a small part of existence. Technologically progressive (it would seem), Man is a 'higher' animal (not as high as a Giraffe, maybe (and that is not as cynical as it might sound)), some might say but how would you define 'higher'?

Man had/has to rely on his wits to survive. However, his 'wits' have got him into a lot of trouble now he has lost the will to survive.

I repeat: he has lost the will to survive.

That will be his demise from the planet. His 'gods' have failed him because they are inventions (some with good intentions) to placate the fear of the earth and his survival when push comes to shove.

Ratings for Man (arbitrary and for example):

Negative  (5 stars is excellent)

Technology/Inventions    
Wars                
Negative intentions        

Positive  (5 stars is excellent)

Medicine/Health        /or no stars
Survival            /or no stars

It's all in the stars...

No matter that when I personally lose the ability to be aware of my awareness, the Universe will cease to exist (at least for me) but I can not see the Human Race existing for much longer either.

Medicine and health are the major factors in any survival. However you interpret these, the fact remains: To survive, you need to make sure that your health is of prime importance and it is up to you as an individual to see to it that this is not compromised by others who do not have your best interest at heart..

It is also invaluable to your own health to look after those others who may not be able to for themselves and it is on your own personal survival skills that will determine that.

"Do unto others", some-one said, "as you would have done unto you".

Meanwhile...I do not, under present circumstances see the creature Man existing much more than 100 years or so.

For myself, at 66 years old (as of writing this), I will be here, with the Grace of the Universe, until whatever end befits me. Until that time, I will be my own person, healthy, happy with a sense of humour and not owing anyone a sou.
